Ruby Red Grapefruit : Also known simply as Ruby, the Ruby Red Grapefruit has no seeds, making it a perfect companion to meals and snacks. The rich fruit sections easily away from the rind and has a mellow taste. The rind is smooth – yellow with blush pigmentation – and the interior is a light red colour. A.E. Henniger of McAllen, Texas, discovered the variety as a bud mutation of a pink marsh grapefruit in 1926. It was patented and named in 1934. It has since become the main product of the Indian River area. The fruit varies in size from 32 to 40 (the number represents the amount of fruit contained in an 18 kg (40 lb.) box. A size 32 to 40 corresponds to a 10 cm – 11 cm diameter). Navel Orange : Unsurpassed as a “dessert” orange, Florida Navel oranges make great snacks for kids and adults because of their easily peeled rind. They are sweet and very tasty. The distinctive secondary fruit, located in the apex, gives the appearance of a navel, hence the name of this delightful orange. The variety originated in Brazil and was imported in the U.S. in 1870 by a missionary who was impressed by the taste and seedlessness. The size varies from 48 to 80 (7 cm – 9 cm diameter). The Florida Navel has a pale orange to yellow-green rind. The fruit can be completely ripe and not have a bright orange rind. The bright orange colour results from cooler nighttime temperatures, which are rare in Florida’s sub-tropical climate. The greenish colour is caused by chlorophyll returning to the rind when the orange ripens in the sun. The tastiest fruit is often yellowish or pale orange. Superior Quality : Unlike supermarket products, EDREC CITRUS fruit is not chemically treated and has ripened on the tree. It is delivered to you less than a week after being picked. Like any product on the market, citrus products are not all of equal quality. Supermarket fruit is generally fumigated, which gives a brighter orange colour. A fine layer of wax is then applied to extend shelf life. A supermarket orange or grapefruit is generally picked up to six weeks prior to being available on store shelves. EDREC CITRUS clearly offers a superior product. Try it once and you will be convinced!
